Sashimi party for one

Last night I made my self this sashimi dish for dinner. To be honest, it was made simply because I had forgotten to take thing out of the freezer, so this was what just what I found in the fridge. But it ended up looking and tasting really good. And I even had some genmaicha(japanese green tea with roasted rice) which made it even better! I could eat sushi all the days of the week if only my budget would allow it.

Glass beads and metal nuts

I'm so happy to be finished with my studies for the summer, and I love the feeling of waking up and not having to do anything. There's nothing that i have to do, and for some reason that makes me do a lot of things. Suddenly all the laundry was done, all my papers and notes were organized, and all those other little things that you think "oh yes, I should do something about that.." and then forget it until the next time, have been dealt with. OK no ALL of those things, but some of them at least.

Today I haven't been doing much else than making necklaces and bracelets. I love doing things like this, and finally I have the time for it. <3

Turquoise and yellow

Finally vacation time for me! Yay! All though it's not full time vacation just yet. I still have my job, but student vise I'm on vacation. Today I walked around town and bought a bit of this and a bit of that, and went home to make a neckless out of it. I really like it, and look forward to wearing it with just a plain white t-shirt or something like that. Hope you like it!

Proud and tired

It's hard trying to be a good student, but damn it feels good. I get these  epiphanies sometimes, and I wish it stuck. But it's hard being a good student when it's so easy not to be. I hope it sticks this time, because I do feel really proud of my self. Proud and tired.

Knitting and writing

So, the last couple of days have been spent doing pretty much nothing else than writing by bachelor. And a bit of Modern family and knitting every now and then, to relax. But it's only a couple of days left, and then I'm free! At least for a couple of months...

Summer in the city.

Trondhiem does not have the best weather in the world. Or actually when it's good, it's really good, but the weather is usually not that good. But it's been absolutely wonderful the last couple of days. Even though I've had to study for my exams(last one tomorrow!), I just couldn't help my self, I had to get out end enjoy the weather. Luckily I found the perfect spot where I could soak up the sun all without any interruptions. Only me and my not so interesting book.

After roasting my self for a while in the sun i went inside and made my self a smashing good green lunch. Green apples, kiwi and vanilla yoghurt. YUM! I love it when you have great mealt like that, and you realise that it's actually really healthy as well.

Modcloth dress love

I'm in the middle of a really hectic period right now, and most of my time goes to either taking an exam or studying for one. But I wanted to show you some of my favourite dresses from Modcloth which I drool over about every time I take a brake from my studies. I long for sunny days(which we actually have in Norway right now, but I don't get much enjoyment of it when I have to sit inside and read), spare time, and sitting in a park, or walking down the street in one of these beautiful dresses. Lovelovelove!

Istedgade Hipster Ale

One of my best friends and I, found a little time to spend together tonight, and it was so nice to hang out again. Eating cupcakes, drinking good beer and being with good friends is not bad, specially in a month filled with an overload of studying and exams.
The beer we drank was Istedgade Hipster Ale from Evil Twin brewery. A really good American Pale Ale! I actually bought it in Istedgade in Copenhagen this Easter, and the beer is made as a tribute to the street and the beer shop at Istedgade 44. It's a really fruity ale, and I wish I had much more of it! Recommended!

Creative days

I haven't been writing in a while now. I'm just in the middle of reading for my exams! Well, actually my exams started today, and it will keep on to the end of the month. But I do have some fun projects on the way as well. It's funny how creative you get during this period of the year. You know you have to study, and suddenly cleaning and dusting sounds fun. Today I ended up vacuuming my room, cleaning my desk and rearrange my desk completely. Now at least I have a clean big space to study at tomorrow.

Do you have a favourite beer?

I have to get better at publishing posts on this blog. So, that's what I'm trying to do today.
I want to show you some of what I did in Copenhagen this Easter. Denmark is one of the worlds biggest exporters of beer, and there is no doubt that the danish loves their beer. And so do I. Denmark is mostly known for Carlsberg and Tuborg, but that's not really of any interest to me. Because Denmark is so much more the those boring mass produced pilsners and light lagers.
Denmark has many different micro breweries, and some of the best beers in the world. My two favourites it Mikkeller and Evil Twin(which is actually run by the twin brother of one of the founders of Mikkeller). For my boyfriend visiting Mikkeller bar was without a doubt the highlight of the trip to Copenhagen. And I think the same goes for me. Not only is the venue really cool, and the bartenders really nice. They also have really really good beer. Besides having many of their own brews both on tap and bottle, they also had beer from different breweries all over the world, including Nøgne Ø from Norway. The thing I loved most about Mikkeller bar was that the beer was served in 2dl glasses, which made it possible to taste many different beers without getting disgustingly drunk. Having the beer in smaller glasses, in stead of gigantic mugs, also makes it look better and it just enhances the feeling and experience of the beer.

But we didn't just drink beer. We also went shopping for beer. The reason for that is that you don't have that good a selection of beer in Norway, and its usually much more expencive as well. I really would suggest to all to try and experience different styles of beer. There is so many different styles and tastes out there. And I can promise you that you'll find something you like!

Dinner dining

I had such a nice evening with one of my best friends at the coolest diner ever. Diners isn't really something you find in Norway, but this place had really gone all in. It was a perfect mix of retro and new, and both the food and the staff was super. Having a good(or bad) waiter can really mean a lot for the whole experience of a restaurant, and in this case it was really good.
I ordered a Hawaiian style burger (which I tend to do if I have the option)with coleslaw and fries. You could really taste that it all was made with love. And all the food is ecological too!
We decided to go for a blueberry pie for dessert. We were after all at an "American" diner. The pie was so good that I want to go back there and have some more right now, though my stomach disagrees with me. Perfectly balanced between sour and sweet, and with a good scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
The beer lover in me was also very pleased to find a big(at least for Norwegian standards) selection of beer. I ended up with a Brooklyn East India Pale Ale as a good end to a great evening

An input of inspiration

I'm spending some time with my parents in Oslo after easter.  Today I did something I love to do while I'm here. looking through magazines and cutting out what inspires me. It really makes me want to get home and be creative!

Copenhagen here I come!

I'm going to Copenhagen tomorrow for a pre Easter vacation, which has started to be some what of a tradition for me and my friends. The last two years we have gone to Berlin, but this year Copenhagen is our destination. I have started to make a little list of things that I want to do there. Hopefully I'll have time to finish it before boarding the plane tomorrow evening. Stay tuned for more!

Chocolate porter ice cream dream

I had the best Sunday yesterday. I got up before any one else in the house(all though, I think that says more about them than me) and had a nice quiet breakfast with good coffee and a newspaper. Just perfect.
Later on in the day we decided to try out a recipe from one of our favourite cookbooks. a chocolate porter ice cream. This household is a bit over the top interested in beer, and love to experiment.
We don't have an ice cream maker, so it took quite a while, and a lot of stirring, for the ice cream to actually freeze. But it was so worth it.
I come for an ice cream loving family, and have eaten my share of chocolate ice creams, and this one is clearly one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted. The porter(which is almost like a stout) gave it a richness that was incredible.

We used this beer called; Flying dog Imperial Porter. It had been stored for about two years, and had developed a velvety soft feeling to it.

 Chocolate Porter Ice cream:

180 grams of sugar
1 1/2 dl water
100 grams of dark chocolate
2 1/2 dl cream
2 dl porter
2 dl milk
125 grams of grated dark chocolate

Put sugar, water and chocolate in a casserole and heat it up slowly while stirring. When the chocolate is melted you put in the porter, cream and milk. Put it in the freezer and stir it every half hour until you have the right texture. Put in the grated chocolate when the mixture is

This recipe gives about 1 liter of ice cream, and because of its richness you wont be able to eat that much in one go, so this will at least hold for the rest of the week! Enjoy!

Risky hair

Sorry that I have been so vacant these past couple of days. I was cast for doing some hair modeling, and my hair vent from platinum blond to black yesterday(!). Today is the day of the show, and I will get make up and my hair will be cut on stage. An experience a bit out of the ordinary for me. But a fun one though. And I do get a free hair cut, and I get to try out a colour I never would have tried on my own.
I don't understand why people are so afraid of having fun with their hair. I get that you're emotionally  attached to it, because after all we're physically attached to it. But still. If you cut it, and it doesn't look good, then cut it in another way. And it will grow out anyway.
Take a risk! You might end up looking and feeling better that you thought you could.

What's on the plate today?

I wanted to show you all what I was doing last night.
Yesterday I went to a low-price retailer to day to get some stuff for tomorrows birthday party. And of course i ended up with a bit more than I had planned. I bought these pens for decorating ceramics. I've always wanted to try it out and found my self a plate and started decorating at once when i came home. It's so fun putting some colour on. I believe that colour really makes people happy. A colourful home is a happy one. A colourful plate is a happy plate.
I should maybe have stopped at this point, but knowing when to stop can be a challenge in it self.

So my end product for my first plate was this. Hope you like it. I do anyway =) I just have to put it in the oven for 30minutes and its done! Now i have to go and start my big project of the day; making a kick ass chocolate cake!

Chocolate love

So on Friday I'm making a birthday cake for my boyfriend. We have this tradition of making each other cakes on our birthdays. But I think I ended up with making my own last year simply because I knew exactly how I wanted it, and was maybe a bit afraid he'd screw up. I visualize something in my head, and it's hard for someone else to make it for you. And the cake ended up to be super good! I probably have a bigger love for baking that my boyfriend anyway.
The last two years I have made him marzipan cakes, but this year he wanted a chocolate one. So that is what he's getting.

I love planning out dishes in my head, and then making them, and hoping they will taste as good as I imagined. This time I imagined a chocolate cake with two layers of chocolate buttercream filling and cover the whole thing with whipped cream with chocolate. For garnish I will use some strawberries and starfruit so it doesn't get too heavy. I'm SO looking forward to making this cake. And even more to eating it of course! In the meantime I have cakewrecks.com to show me what not to do!

The internet curse

Have you ever felt that you're doing something that actually really bores you, but you still just keep on doing it? Wyh do people do that? Sit and watch tv-shows and forgettig what they're watching during the comercial brake. Or, like me, going to the same damn sites over and over again even though I know there wont be anything new happening. I have a round with facebook(of course), two news sites, two shops and some blogs. And I go thorough it so many times even though I know there wont be anything there. The internet curse. It ust drags you towards it even though you dont want to, even though you know you really should turn it of and do something constructive. But then it hits you that you actually need the internet to do stuff, and you're stuck. Maybe the clue is to somehow block those pages that you dont really need for some hours of the day. That would maybe do the trick...
